Returning to Our Roots: The Foundations of Bioenergetic Analysis
Keynote Speakers: Heiner Steckel, Liane Zink & Louise Fréchette
We begin with the voices of our history: colleagues from the first generation after Alexander Lowen who helped build (and continue to actively shape) the Bioenergetic community.
Their contribution will help ground us in the foundations of our tradition, inviting us to return to the essential principles that have shaped Bioenergetic Analysis and to reflect on what remains alive and meaningful in them today. Where do our roots continue to nourish us? And what do they ask us to carry forward? |

New Connections: Body, Attachment and Early Trauma
We turn toward contemporary scientific developments and new dialogues around early trauma, attachment, and the relationship between parents and babies. What can we discover when our roots meet new knowledge?
Keynote: Self Attachment, Differentiation, and Good Enough Parenting: Insights from Parent–Baby Therapy
Presenter: Thomas Harms
Thomas Harms will present a keynote that explores how early relational experiences between parents and infants shape the foundations of emotional regulation, trauma integration, and embodied attachment.
Drawing on more than 30 years of clinical work, Thomas Harms highlights what parent–baby therapy reveals about the roots of co-regulation and early resilience. His presentation focuses on the subtle yet powerful processes through which caregivers help babies calm themselves and regain balance. As Thomas Harms emphasizes, “supporting parents in strengthening their own capacity for self-attachment and emotional regulation can help babies integrate stressful or overwhelming experiences more quickly and safely.” The keynote also connects these early dynamics to therapeutic work with adults who carry preverbal trauma. He demonstrates how insights from infancy can inform a gentle, relational, and body oriented psychotherapeutic approach; one that sheds light on the origins of early physical armoring and defense systems. Panel: Emotional First Aid in the Clinic
Panelists: Thomas Harms, Avigail Shahar, Guy Tonella & Perrison Dantas
When birth takes an unexpected turn, parents can find themselves overwhelmed, frightened, and suddenly facing situations they never imagined.
This panel explores how early, compassionate support can help families navigate these particularly vulnerable moments. Drawing on pioneering work bringing Emotional First Aid into birth clinics and neonatal units, we will explore how immediate, body-based support can help parents and babies regain stability, strengthen connection, and find their footing after a difficult or traumatic beginning. The panelists will consider how early intervention can support healing, resilience, and the relationship between parents and their babies. |

Evening Program
Friday evening will be a chance to slow down, come together, and simply enjoy each other’s company in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. We are currently shaping the program, with ideas ranging from sharing tales, legends, and jokes to singing, music, and other spontaneous contributions.
Whatever the final form takes, the evening will be about connection, creativity, music and the joy of being together.
We’re still working on the plan and look forward to surprising you!

We invite you into a collective process of gentle reflection: to honor our strong foundations while exploring new ways our lineage can respond to an ever-changing world.
The essential question is not only how we practice Bioenergetic Analysis, but what kind of world we are practicing in; and what our somatic lineage can offer that world today. |

Many Perspectives, One Community
We will pause and create space to contemplate what we have heard, experienced, questioned, and discovered together.
We connect the different threads of the conference and reflect on what they may mean for the future of our global community. Because an inclusive and diverse conference is not simply one in which many voices are present. It is one in which those voices have the opportunity to change the conversation. We return to our roots, encounter new knowledge, question what we thought we knew—and from there, perhaps, find new ways to grow. After all, the strongest wings grow from deep roots. |
